Dominic’s Testimony

I’m 33 and have lived in Maryland my whole life. I started working at 14 to support myself after my parents separated. I found a passion for lawn care and landscaping when I was 20, working for a local business and learning to operate equipment, trim bushes, and design beautiful lawns. Over the years, I worked for several other companies, gaining experience in everything from lawn maintenance to property preservation, where I learned new skills like plumbing, electrical, and drywall work.

Despite my success at work, I struggled with addiction and mental health issues, making it difficult to hold onto jobs. After many job losses and rehab stays, I was approved for disability. Though it wasn’t enough to live on, I realized that with some adjustments, I could still work and pursue something I loved.

Walking through Westminster Rescue Mission gave me the opportunity to truly reflect on my life, reconnect with God, and realize that I wanted to make a real change. It was there that I found my calling—to not only rebuild my career but also my faith. With the Mission’s support, I took a leap of faith and started my own lawn care business.

Since then, I’ve landed a few customers and am excited to continue growing Maryland Maintenance LLC. The flexibility allows me to work at my own pace, manage my mental health, and create a schedule that works for me. I’m grateful for the chance to do something I love and for the Mission’s role in helping me get here. This is the fresh start I’ve been searching for, and I truly believe this path was meant for me.

My message is simple: “No matter how hard life gets, change is always possible.” Every new day is a fresh start, and with hard work and faith, you can create something meaningful.
